ONE THING

“ONE THING”

By Greg Rooks

What could happen if you take your eyes off Jesus and forget the “one thing”?
2 CORINTHIANS 11:3  But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Think about it, the Devil attempts to “to delude by guile, artifice, or craft; to deceive or impose on, as by a false statement; to lure” us to believe what God says is not true.

“Don’t eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil”.

If I said to you,” don’t put your finger in that electric light bulb socket or you will get electrocuted”, then you would probably listen.

But, if you say to a young child, “you can put your finger in that socket and no harm will become you”, then the child would probably do it just to see for themselves.

Remember how God said it in the Bible:

Genesis 2:15  And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

16  ¶And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Genesis 3:1  ¶Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

2  And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3  But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

4  And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5  For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

6  ¶And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

Wait a minute…….what just happened here?  Satan deluded by guile, artifice, or craft; to deceive or impose on, as by a false statement; to lure first Eve to take of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil and then to eat it, thereby  giving up their position of authority that God had given Adam and Eve.  Since, legally, God placed Adam in authority, Adam bent his knee to Satan giving over his position of dominion over the earth.

God wants us to be like him.  He made us in his likeness and image and placed the first man and women in authority over His creation, the Earth.  God is in authority over all creation since He created everything that was created.

John 1:1  ¶In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2  The same was in the beginning with God.

3  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4  In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Think of it like this: Satan pulled Adam and Eve into the darkness with him away from the light of God.

Genesis 2:7

7  And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

8  ¶And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

9  And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

10  And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.

11  The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

12  And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

13  And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.

14  And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

15  And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

16  ¶And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

GENESIS 1:26

Genesis 1:26  ¶And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27  So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28  And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

29  ¶And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

30  And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

Proverbs 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

7  ¶Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

8  It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

Romans 8:14  For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

15  For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

16  The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

So, what is that “One Thing” that comes before God in your life?  Nothing can separate you from God except you putting anything else first.   This may sound harsh or unkind but, nothing  should be more important to you than God.  He is the one that protects you and your family.  He is the one that prospers you.

I think that we all should be diligent in assessing our day to day lives to determine whether we are letting anything come before God.  Take him at His word, believe on Him, He shall guide your path.  And when Satan starts seeking to destroy you by deluding you by guile, artifice, or craft; to deceive or impose on, as by a false statement; to lure, then keep Jesus first and know what His Word says.

I welcome comments and thoughts that edify the Body of Christ!
